Research
The LSDO lab develops methods and applications for large-scale optimization, especially in multidisciplinary problems. Therefore, much of the research is motivated by the challenges of dealing with a large number of design variables as well as models that integrate multiple disciplines.
The ongoing research in the LSDO lab divides into four categories. The first two represent fundamental methods research that are generally applicable to any application or field. These are MDO methods and theory, and optimization of dynamical systems. The latter two deal with application-specific developments, and these are aircraft design optimization methods, and optimal design of structures and materials.
